Unexpected Lesson From Gettysburg

Written by Bryan on July 4, 2008 – -

MonkeyCrash has not been updated for a few days due to a much needed vacation. I’d like to steer away from my usual political rants in order to share this brief story from my vacation.

If a fireman pulled you from a burning home would you thank him? If a police officer protected you from a would be mugger would you show gratitude? What if a doctor saved your life when all others thought you were a goner? Would you want to shake his hand?

I was at Gettysburg this week touring the famous battlefield believing I’d gain a better knowledge of the events that took place there. As our tour began our tour guide stepped on the bus and I immediately turned to my wife and said, “I didn’t know Steve Carell was giving this tour; sweet”. My wife did not appreciate my humor but he really did have a resemblance to Steve Carell.

About halfway through our tour our guide mentioned that he was just back from the Iraq War. That was when a pesky thought entered my mind. Here I am learning about heroes from the Civil War and I have a living breathing one right in front of me. He will never have a monument marking where he has been. His name will never be in a history book. But he is a hero in every sense of the word. Then the pesky thought evolved into a guilty feeling. How many times have I walked past someone in uniform and not thanked them for their service? They have; or are willing to put their life on the line to protect me and my family and I like most others simply walk past them.

At the conclusion of the tour I decided that I was going to go up to this man and thank him for his service. As we stepped of the bus I told my wife I’d be right back. I walked over to the tour guide shook his hand and said, ” Thank you for your service in Iraq, we appreciate it.” He replied, “My pleasure, thank you for that.” No this was not a momentous occasion, just a few simple words, but how can I not say thank you to those who serve our country.

I learned a lot about Gettysburg this week, but the most important thing I took with me was a new found gratitude for our men and women in the Armed Forces.

Democrats Block Republican Attempts To Drill Offshore

Written by Bryan on June 25, 2008 – -

The elitist Democrats have once again shown their true colors.  House Democrats failed to resurrect a bill to punish price gouging at the gas pump, while maneuvering to block Republican attempts to expand offshore drilling.

It’s evident that the Democrats are out of touch with the American people. They are fine with the high price that we are paying at the pump. They have successfully put the vote off until later this summer. “Someone’s afraid that we’ll send a message” and lift the drilling ban, Rep. Jerry Lewis of California, the ranking Republican on the Appropriations panel, said Tuesday. “We have the votes,” maintained Rep. John Peterson, R-Pa., sponsor of the pro-drilling measure that would open waters 50 miles offshore to oil companies. But he said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California “will do everything she can do to stalemate it.”

Is this the “change” that the Democratic party is offering? Why aren’t they listening to the American people? A new Zogby poll from this weekend reveals that 74% of Americans support offshore oil drilling, including 90% of Republicans, 75% of independents, and 58% of Democrats–majorities of each party. In addition, the Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less campaign has received more than a million signatures, yet the American Left continue to deny the wishes of the American people.

How long can you afford to pay these gas prices? How long will you let the Democrats force you to pay over $4.00 for a gallon of gas? If you want real change it’s time to let them hear you. Call your congressman, sign the Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less petition, Let Obama know that you will not be voting for him. A vote for Obama is a vote for higher gas prices.

Obama Plays Race Card

Written by Bryan on June 24, 2008 – -

Barack Obama:

“We know what kind of campaign [the Republicans are] going to run. They’re going to try to make you afraid,” Obama said at the fundraiser. “They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black? He’s got a feisty wife.”

I have already heard the American Left claiming that this statement was made by Obama in order to defend himself from the Republicans who seek to play the race card. Do they really think the American people are that stupid.

Anyone with a functioning brain can see that this is Obama playing the race card. He has now suggested that those who oppose him do so because he is black. He and his campaign want to make the American people think that anyone who does not vote for Obama is a racist. Plain and simple.

I will not be voting for Obama. Not because he is black, but because I do not agree with his policies. Obama wants to:

*Raise taxes across the board

*Nationalize Health care

*Withdrawal from Iraq; allowing defeat.

*Continue dependency on foreign oil; opposing drilling our own.

*Let terrorists know that they are being investigated after 7 days of investigation.

These are just a few of the problems I have with Obama. None of which have to do with the color of his skin. The media, Democrats and Obama himself are the ones who are playing the race card. They would rather us focus on the color of his skin and ignore his shortcomings. If Obama loses the media and the American Left will blame it on that fact that he is black. They will accuse the American people of being racist. They do not want us to remember the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Mr Obama, on November 4th when I do not vote for you it will be because I have judged you by your character and not by the color of your skin. You can stop playing the race card.
