Russia Our Enemy

By Jason • on September 9, 2008

As a little boy I would play with action figures called GI- Joes. I use to have tanks and guns for these GI- Joes and I would always fight one enemy. I wouldn’t fight the Germans or the Japanese, I wouldn’t fight the Indians or the British, nor would I fight the Iraqis or the terrorists, the country I would fight and destroy every time was Russia. I would always win too!

As I grew older the GI- Joes started to get packed away and I notice Russia really wasn’t the enemy so much anymore. Rather our focus as a country was on the Afghanistan Taliban, the dictator Saddam Hussein, and all the different terrorists who wished our country harm. We have focused our attention on North Korea and Iran as we should but I think we have forgotten or it seems we have forgotten our enemy of enemies and that is Russia.

Russia these days is certainly flexing their muscle. They have sent their bombers dangerously close to our naval ships, they have arms deal after arms deal with the ever so volatile Iran, they invaded the democratic western backed nation of Georgia, they plan to hold joint naval exercise with a communist dictator who hates the U.S, they even threatened Poland because of the missile shield defense system. If we are not in a cold war right now, pray tell me what is a cold war? Russian has gained her influence and much power since the strong rhetoric of, “Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall!” echoed by Ronald Regan.

I believe these days we are in a Cold War with Russia. As Russia continues to build her military we must counter with better measures. We must succeed in Iraq as to not show weakness to Putin, we must be strong in our war on terror and also be strong in our pursuit to get our missile defense systems in place in the strategic countries around Russia. Whoever our next President might be he must be able to lead us in foreign diplomacy but he also must be willing to take the fight to Russia the aggressor. He must be prepared to fight a Cold war like Ronald Regan did. I am frightened for the future of America if we don’t firmly stand up to Russian and loudly declare, Mr. Putin tear down your communism idealism and put up a real democracy, and stand down your military! I’m afraid if John McCain is not our president we may have bigger issues with Russia in the future.

This ranks right up there with all of the other pro-war propaganda manure that I have been reading for some time. This neo-con, “we have to have a boogeyman” philosophy has gone on too long.

“Jason” proposes that our next leader must be willing to take the fight to Russia. This is proposterous! To insist continually as the pro-war any war crowds have done that Russia is an aggressor is the paramount of arrogance and hypocricy.

Probably being referred to is the defensive action that Russia took for South Ossetia. Russia was not the aggressor, Georgia was! Furthermore, if Russia decided to install weapon defense systems in Mexico and Canada, the US hostility would overshadow any “big talk” the Russians have done.

One point “Jason” did make however that vindicates something I have opined about the latest criticisms of Russia, is that folks are still so hung up on Rocky reruns and Top Gun that they cannot even explain their disdain for Putin and his homeland.

Do some research and critical thinking apart from the new Republican talking points and your journalistic integrity may have credence, but by rehashing cold war animosity with neo conservative fear mongering, you are showing a lack of logic and have become just another pundit with a partisan agenda.
