   All this crap about race is just that, crap. Women did not get the right to vote until 1920, 50 years after the former slaves, they got that right in 1870. The only job a single woman could really do was prostitution. And all this stuff about whites causing slavery is a joke to. The first slaves were sold off by guess who, OTHER AFRICANS. The Jews have been persecuted for about 4000 years longer than the African people. I am a white male who is part seminole indian as well. I know racism is a real thing in america and it will probably bever fully end until there is only one race and one religion. The thought that whites should fell guilty for what was done by ancestors 160 years ago should not happen and p*sses me off. we all make choices and live with what we do. Not what someone else you never seen did. Now I do believe that if Obama was white he would not of even been nominated because every other canidate has better plans and more experience than him. I stood on my soap box and put in my two cents. If my statements are wrong someone please correct me, but my beliefs will not change. I have 17 years of military service and have friends off all races and religions who I would die for and I know would do the same for me. But I will be damned if I feel guilty because my ancestors made bad choices and feel I should not have to pay for them.

I never remember a large amount of African Americans voting for bush, but a lot of them voted kerry the Democrat, and he was white. Didnt seem to be a problem then.    Finally over us a under statement it has now just begun. If you watched the cam pains you could clearly see it was about color and not anything more. The only color exploited in McCain’s campaign was his body guards. I saw no BLACKS IN THE BACK GROUND UNLESS THEY WHERE SECURITY. I live and have worked in the usa since 1956 I am an American. My parents homesteaded here. They lost the homestead from ignorance. So my Inheritances was not what it could have been now in the midst of everything my USA country is turning into a welfare country. Free housing in neighborhoods that low class have no rights to be in I worked to have a nice home whey sohould it be easy for some lazy person to live in my neighborhood that never had to work for the same house I had to work so hard for. They need to live in an apartment down the road not in my neighbor hood. Want to drive a corvette then pay for not have it handed to you. Want a diamond ring and not a cz then go out and make a difference……… Want a trailer or a Framed home make the difference. Have to rent because you screwed up your credit shame on you… Rich people make mistakes and pay big fines,, It is the way of life. I do not want the forclosure home in my neighbor hood to be leased to some lowlife that doesn’t work and moves in everyone of their relatives and cars parked everywhere and devalues my neighborhood that I moved into because I thought it was the same class of persons I was. Low Class should not be allowed into hard working class neighborhoods. GET A JOB

   For blacks, the promise has been a long time coming – that dream of MLK.

   But the idea that the nation will change for blacks if Obama wins seems farfetched – and outlandish if it is because he is black.

   What Obama-supporters think will change in response to his promises to the black population should be viewed in light of what is realistic, and what is possible. That to blacks, he may be able to walk on water, may not prove to be the fact – even if he wins.

   Certainly, to many blacks, however, it is an election equivalent to that of first electing George Washington as they may feel they are wiping away 300 years of racial submission to white voters. And perhaps they are.

   Somehow I came upon this website and am really appalled.
   How quickly we all forget 911 and how our country came together as one during that time people helped each other out, race was not an issue we were all AMERICANS.
   The comments listed (not all) are full of hate and racism and constant tit for tat.
   People we all need to get along in this country!
   At this point our country is in such a mess it doesn’t really matter who is president, neither will be able to turn it around fast from this financial disaster. To say that Blacks will only vote for Obama becasue he is Black is rascism. That’s not to say SOME Blacks will vote for that reason as well SOME Whites will not vote for Obama becasue he’s Black. Rascism works in both directions. But to assume that all Blacks are incapable of making an intelligent descision based on the issues is disgusting (as mentioned a huge majority are already registered democrats).
   I AM A WHITE MARRIED FEMALE, who is scared as hell that McCain may be our next president fearing if elected there is a big chance he’ll die in office. If it was the McCain of 2000 I may not have a problem, but the McCain of 2008 is not the same person. The fact that he disregarded what was good for the American people (country first?) by choosing Palin (quick, unvetted) as his running mate for the sole purpose of securing the religious right vote is not a candidate I would vote for.
   If McCain dies in office that would make Palin the President. I could go on about how she is completely unqualified, less curious about life/ the world than GW, but it’s not my job to educate the ignorant, hypocritical god loving, rascists out there.
   All I say is the next time you criticize Obama for being Anti-American google the ALASKAN INDEPENDENCE PARTY
   and you’ll find out how truly connected Palin is/was to their PUSH FOR an independent Alaska it was only a few months ago she said to the AIP “keep up the good work”.

   i have said all along that obama has only gotten this far because he is a black man. fact is if a white man, or a woman of any color he would have been laughed out of the primary in ten seconds. his lack of experience in national politics, his lack of judgement, his horrible connections to horrible people, his arrogance, his absolute determination to ignore the rules and laws of the election process, his extreme liberal voting record, his stand on abortion, the list goes on and on. but for some odd reason if anyone points out the facts that make him unacceptable as a presidential candidate then that person is deemed racist. everyone is trying so hard to NOT be labelled racist that obama is given a free pass. i, for one, am not a racist. i would cheerfully vote for a black man or woman to be the president if that person were qualified for the job. obama is not qualified. and what is worse is that he really seems to hate the country he is determined to lead. he is more interested in making his history by being the first black president, than he is interested in what is best for our country.

   I live in Houston, a mostly Hispanic city…
   I have alot of hispanic friends, I dont not call them brown(Why label skin color) and i do not call everyone a mexican… Just as a person from Cuba or El salvador would not appreciate being called “Mexican” I would not wish to be called white. Anyone with any family backround and heritage; i would think would not like to be generalized into a color. People who generalize with color are seemingly iggnorant or just uneducated.

   Sadley, hispanics are treated as “less-then” in some states but to genralize and say ” All whites can do is make money due to greed, but money doesn’t cure ugliness in a race.” I do not see how you would have a masters degree and say that, seeing as before hispanics(central and south america) and africans and people from the caribbean came along the Irish were the race most picked on by….. The English. So my skin color mabye be a lighter tan then yours but that does not make me the same as anyone English. I have a fueled hate for the English… besides the fact that the English keep my people at the bottem of the chain for alot longer time that the hispanics(central and south america) and africans and people from the caribbean have ever been… So i really do not like the phrase “White” But even thought i am thrina to inform you on how thing are and have been you are problly gona try and come back with a sly…. mabye even rasict remark.. and you are going to feel really kool about it. Even tho there are EXTREMELY iggnorant people being rascist, you should not allow your self to drop to there level. If you do have a masters degree i appalud you, good job.     Democrats, minorities all over lets not become offended by the level of ignorance from the opposing party and those who will not allow themselves to understand that we are all children of the same GOD (funny how they will quickly protest their strong faith A JOKE RIGHT). Their behaviors, attitudes, remarks, etc are all responses to their insecurities and fear. The fear due to the loss of power provokes one to create false ideologies to soothe their emotions and to maintain their stability. OUR PRESIDENT, in less than 4 days, will be Barack Obama. His seizure of this position is solely due to his strong diligence, persona, policies, believability, and his personal triumphs. He has won the debate against John McCain. His ethos, pathos and logos extremely overwhelm those of John McCains. Obama has no personal gain in obtaining this position. America as a whole is the sole beneficiary. The United States of America population is roughly composed of over 65% Caucasians. That number already represents the major population. So, educated individuals when Obama wins it will be mainly due to a large percent of the WHITE vote if anything! It’s a simple yes or no. Race should not have a role in deciding what policies are going to best fit the families of our country. It’s sad to see that whether or not we have universal healthcare, or can afford to continue driving fuel consuming cars is not even close to significant as the 50% concentration of Kenyan blood that flows through Barack. So once again let’s not allow ourselves to become consumed in the negativity of those that are afraid. Let’s look forward to the CHANGE in America that is well DESERVED

    A couple of points: 1. blacks voted in the high 80′s for Clinton, Obama will get a little bit more. Remember, even if all blacks voted for Obama, he will still need the white vote to win, blacks make up less than 20% of population.
    2. With the economy the way it is, 2 wars, stock market crash and all the other stuff with this administration, any average white democrat would win in a land slide. The only reason Obama would not win would be race.

    We need new direction, another republican will not change a thing.

    I am a hispanic woman married to a white male. Sadly, I get horrible looks from many people within my race when I am with him. The world wants to say they are are above racism but truly the people of color are more racist then white people. YUP I said it.     I hear time and time again to vote for Obama because a black man deserves to be President or let’s make history and vote a black man in. Sadly, when you ask other than his color why are you going to vote for him, they say CHANGE, when you ask change what, they say lots of things but cannot specify what it is. I never hear how qualified he is, just what color his is. Does this mean if a Asian or Hispanic person was running they would be voted in for their color as well?

    Why does it seem that so many people of color feel they deserve something given to them instead of earning what they get. Minority people can get so much aide (scholarships, loans, financial help) out there it’s sad, but can a white female/male get the same because of his color? I am YES a hispanic women who was taught by her parents that we earn what we get and not to expect it handed to them and that is how I live my life. I do see many people in my race being raised them same BUT sadly the number of families raising their families thinking other wise is larger.

    I realize what I say will get #$@$% responses from many people of color and that’s fine. I realize that you are the larger problem in this world because you are tainted by race as well.

    If your gonna vote for Obama vote because he’s qualified and you think he is the better choice. But voting for him because of his color or for CHANGE without knowing what he’s changing is just plain IGNORANT. KNOW what his policies are going to be and the changes he will implement if he becomes president. Just to add, don’t do the same thing and vote for McCain/Palin ticket just because she is a female. KNOW WHY YOUR VOTING FOR SOMEONE NOT JUST BECAUSE OF COLOR OR GENDER since that does not make them qualified for the job.

    Who am I voting for? Well, I am undecided because I am still reading the pros and cons for both. I am informing myself to make the best choice not because I am on the media driving band wagon or what’s popular now.

    90% of Blacks vote Democratic regardless of the Democrat’s skin color. Therefore only 5% of the Black population can be voting for Obama based on his skin color (assuming your numbers are correct), and the Black population is 13% of the general population.

    .05*.13 (switched from a percentage to decimal)=.0065 or 00.65%.

    You’re assuming that approximately half a percent of voters (many of whom have changed their minds because the horrendous policies of the Bush administration) will decide the election. I have no doubt that at least half a percentage of white voters who may otherwise vote Democrat, may refuse to vote for Obama because he is Black. The overall effect should at least neutralize it’s self. And the White-guilt crowd usually votes Democrat anyway too, so I wouldn’t worry much about that either.

    I’m not sure that I agree with your article. Your starting argument is that whites will feel guilty and therefor vote for him and Blacks will vote for him strictly off race. Your ending argument is more substantive and says he will lose on issues, or because in general he is the weaker opponent.

    Ok, disclaimer: I’m Black and also liberal. I don’t think your racist. I also respect your reasons for supporting McCain. We see things differently and that’s ok. I have a couple of points though.

    1)It is true that 95% of Black people in this country will vote for Obama, conservative or liberal. Try to put that into context though. Example: this morning I’m registering people to vote in front of a supermarket and I noticed a trend. Every older Black person that I tried registering looked at me like I was crazy. A few gave me lectures on the Civil Rights movement and how people died for the right to vote. Yes, conservative Black people voting for Obama are voting against their political ideology, but this moment is bigger than one person’s beliefs. I’ll save your the rant because I think you know where I’m going with that.

    2) To be honest, I don’t understand White guilt, and I don’t understand why White people hold it against Black people for a guilt that they’ve placed on themselves. There was never a Black American mandate that was signed into law that states that White people must feel guilty for everything pre-1964. You can point to Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, Spike Lee, Bill Maher and a whole host of people that could be held responsible for making White people feel guilty. My point is that there is a difference between feeling guilty about something that you really aren’t responsible for and understanding the privilege that you have in this country from being White. Either way, your not responsible for being born White. I didn’t chose to be born Black. It’s the way it turned out. I don’t hate you. The fact of the matter is we live in a country where Black people were given the right to vote 44 years ago. The system was set up to your advantage. Affirmative action and set aside programs don’t change the dynamic of the system, rather it’s an unfortunate reflection of the larger system that we live in. You and I didn’t make the rules.

    3) Bryan, as I’ve said before, I respect your reasons for voting Republican. You didn’t once mention that Obama’s a Muslim terrorist anti-Christ hell bent on burning the American flag on national TV. Your sticking to the facts and not mentioning stereotypes or rumors. Those article’s that you’ve pointed out are a reflection of people’s frustration and distrust of the American electorate. Bush has a sorry approval rating, the economy is in the tank, McCain isn’t a strong candidate and Palin’s becoming a disaster. Hillary voters jumped ship to the GOP and give reasons like “He’s an elitist”. I mean…c’mon. Can you blame commentators for playing the race card on this? On the flip side, I read an interesting article recently from the perspective of a Black American explaining why race would NOT be a factor in an Obama defeat.

    My point is this. Things aren’t so black and white. Look at the gray. Some Blacks will blame racism, some will say it was his experience. Think about the 5 percent that’s voting Republican. Either way, we won’t live to see an America where race is not a issue. But until then, lets just try to have an understanding of why it’s an issue today.
