Obama and Security Chiefs Will Ignore The Obvious

// January 5th, 2010 // No Comments » // WAR ON TERROR

President Obama is meeting with 20 security officials today to discuss reforms to the terror watch list and airline security. Unfortunately the inability of this administration to recognize the obvious traits that these terrorists share leaves us vulnerable.

Let’s examine what 99% of these terrorists have in common. They are all MUSLIM. Yes, I said it. Is you politically incorrect alarm sounding? We are at war with terrorists who follow a religion that tells them to kill any one who does not follow their religion. Yes, I know not all Muslims adhere to this teaching, but the Radical Islamist do and it is them we must address. It’s time to profile. Profiling is not racist or politically incorrect, it’s common sense. To ignore obvious evidence in order to not offend a group is absurd and unacceptable.

Until this administration wakes up and admits who we are at war with, we will not be safe.

A Better Country: Why America Was Right To Confront Iraq; Book Review

// October 21st, 2008 // 1 Comment » // WAR ON TERROR

Doubtless the war in Iraq has been a subject that when discussed brings about a myriad of emotions ranging from supportive to downright disgust. The sensitive issue is successfully tackled in the book A Better Country: Why America Was Right To Confront Iraq, by Arthur Borden.

Arthur Borden is a corporate attorney and former member of the Signal Corps in the U.S. Army, having served in Europe during World War II from 1943-1945. A graduate of Yale College and Columbia Law School, he has practiced law for over fifty years in addition to teaching corporate law at New York Law School.

His experience in law is evident throughout the book as he makes a strong case for the war in Iraq. Borden gives a detailed account of the events leading up the 2003 invasion of Iraq, illuminating the danger that Saddam posed. Due to partisan bickering the war has been misunderstood by most Americans. Borden traces the true reason of the war back to the Carter Doctrine. In other words, Oil and the preservation of American interests was and is the reason for the war.

From: A Better Country

It was widely understood before the invasion, just as it was widely forgotten afterward, that Saddam held ambitions to dominate the Persian Gulf and by controlling the flow of oil to establish a decisive position for himself in the global economy.”

Borden also reveals how the Democrats used the war to weaken Bush’s reputation and power.

By this date Democrats were ridiculing the President daily, as though they were not themselves familiar with the Carter Doctrine and its history, did not understand the President’s speeches about the risk of Iraqi regional domination, and had not read the Times and the Post in previous years.”

“While Bush had found a window of opportunity to rid the world of Saddam, the Democrats supposed they had found a window for tossing out Bush. Their strategy was to repeat ad nauseam that he had lied about WMD and to keep doubting the war’s necessity on this basis. Their position was that the only excuse for the war was a 9/11 Link and that the President had lied there was such a link. Oil seemed to have dropped out of their vocabulary. As Ted Koppel had noted, it was not something you could say.”

Read A Better Country: Why America Was Right To Confront Iraq. Don’t allow the media and liberals to manipulate your feelings about the war. Borden gives you facts, not talking points.

Op-Ed by McCain; NY Times Doesn’t Want You To Read It.

// July 23rd, 2008 // No Comments » // POLITICAL ARENA, WAR ON TERROR

Below is the op-ed by McCain that the NY Times refused to print.

In January 2007, when General David Petraeus took command in Iraq, he called the situation “hard” but not “hopeless.” Today, 18 months later, violence has fallen by up to 80% to the lowest levels in four years, and Sunni and Shiite terrorists are reeling from a string of defeats. The situation now is full of hope, but considerable hard work remains to consolidate our fragile gains.

Progress has been due primarily to an increase in the number of troops and a change in their strategy. I was an early advocate of the surge at a time when it had few supporters in Washington. Senator Barack Obama was an equally vocal opponent. “I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there,” he said on January 10, 2007. “In fact, I think it will do the reverse.”

Now Senator Obama has been forced to acknowledge that “our troops have performed brilliantly in lowering the level of violence.” But he still denies that any political progress has resulted.

Perhaps he is unaware that the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has recently certified that, as one news article put it, “Iraq has met all but three of 18 original benchmarks set by Congress last year to measure security, political and economic progress.” Even more heartening has been progress that’s not measured by the benchmarks. More than 90,000 Iraqis, many of them Sunnis who once fought against the government, have signed up as Sons of Iraq to fight against the terrorists. Nor do they measure Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki’s new-found willingness to crack down on Shiite extremists in Basra and Sadr City-actions that have done much to dispel suspicions of sectarianism.

The success of the surge has not changed Senator Obama’s determination to pull out all of our combat troops. All that has changed is his rationale. In a New York Times op-ed and a speech this week, he offered his “plan for Iraq” in advance of his first “fact finding” trip to that country in more than three years. It consisted of the same old proposal to pull all of our troops out within 16 months. In 2007 he wanted to withdraw because he thought the war was lost. If we had taken his advice, it would have been. Now he wants to withdraw because he thinks Iraqis no longer need our assistance.

To make this point, he mangles the evidence. He makes it sound as if Prime Minister Maliki has endorsed the Obama timetable, when all he has said is that he would like a plan for the eventual withdrawal of U.S. troops at some unspecified point in the future.

Senator Obama is also misleading on the Iraqi military’s readiness. The Iraqi Army will be equipped and trained by the middle of next year, but this does not, as Senator Obama suggests, mean that they will then be ready to secure their country without a good deal of help. The Iraqi Air Force, for one, still lags behind, and no modern army can operate without air cover. The Iraqis are also still learning how to conduct planning, logistics, command and control, communications, and other complicated functions needed to support frontline troops.

No one favors a permanent U.S. presence, as Senator Obama charges. A partial withdrawal has already occurred with the departure of five “surge” brigades, and more withdrawals can take place as the security situation improves. As we draw down in Iraq, we can beef up our presence on other battlefields, such as Afghanistan, without fear of leaving a failed state behind. I have said that I expect to welcome home most of our troops from Iraq by the end of my first term in office, in 2013.

But I have also said that any draw-downs must be based on a realistic assessment of conditions on the ground, not on an artificial timetable crafted for domestic political reasons. This is the crux of my disagreement with Senator Obama.

Senator Obama has said that he would consult our commanders on the ground and Iraqi leaders, but he did no such thing before releasing his “plan for Iraq.” Perhaps that’s because he doesn’t want to hear what they have to say. During the course of eight visits to Iraq, I have heard many times from our troops what Major General Jeffrey Hammond, commander of coalition forces in Baghdad, recently said: that leaving based on a timetable would be “very dangerous.”

The danger is that extremists supported by Al Qaeda and Iran could stage a comeback, as they have in the past when we’ve had too few troops in Iraq. Senator Obama seems to have learned nothing from recent history. I find it ironic that he is emulating the worst mistake of the Bush administration by waving the “Mission Accomplished” banner prematurely.

I am also dismayed that he never talks about winning the war-only of ending it. But if we don’t win the war, our enemies will. A triumph for the terrorists would be a disaster for us. That is something I will not allow to happen as president. Instead I will continue implementing a proven counterinsurgency strategy not only in Iraq but also in Afghanistan with the goal of creating stable, secure, self-sustaining democratic allies.

Pelosi: Bush Is “A Total Failure.”

// July 18th, 2008 // 7 Comments » // WAR ON TERROR

  Speaker Pelosi called President Bush a “total failure” Thursday in reaction to Bush’s remarks two days earlier in which he took the Democratic run Congress to task for not doing their, “fundamental job.”

Pelosi’s Own Words:

“God bless him, bless his heart, president of the United States –a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject,”

Can you not feel the hate in that quote? This is a woman who is bent on pushing her liberal agenda and has finally snapped.

She refuses to believe that we are winning the war in Iraq. She has called for withdrawal and defeat numerous times. She has failed not only the American people in the war, but also the soldiers who are putting their life on the line so she can call for their defeat.

She promised that the Democratic run Congress would lower gas prices. That was in 2006. Another failure by Pelosi. Oil prices however have dropped in the last few days due to a combination of Bush lifting the executive ban on drilling and increased supply due to Americans forgoing the pump because of the high prices. It’s interesting that an increase supply lowers the price. Is that not what we have been asking for? If we Drill Here, Drill Now, our supply will increase; in turn lowering gas prices. The Democrats would have us believe that this decrease in price would not happen because it will take 5 years to get the oil. Bush simply lifted a ban that does nothing until the Democrats in Congress vote with Republicans to lift the ban, but the price still dropped. This is due in part to speculators. 73% of Americans want us to drill, but Pelosi has failed to listen to them.

I called Speaker Pelosi’s office earlier this week to express my dissatisfaction with her polices concerning drilling. The call went something like this:

Pelosi’s Office- “Speaker Pelosi’s office.”

Me- “I have a couple of questions I wanted to ask Speaker Pelosi. Is she available?”

Pelosi’s Office-”Umm, you can leave a message on her voicemail.”

Me- “I tried that the other day, it was full. Are you able to answer questions concerning her policies?”

Pelosi’s Office- “What was the question?”

Me- “In 2006 Speaker Pelosi said the Democrats had a plan to lower gas prices. Is that correct?”

Pelosi’s Office- “Yes that is.”

Me- “Well the prices are still high. Is there a new plan?”

Pelosi’s Office – “You can go to her website for policy information.”

I went to the website today and found the usual propaganda that she has been spreading, but I decided I’d reach out to Pelosi one last time. I sent an email to her under the “contact us” page on her site. Here’s my email:

Speaker Pelosi, When you find the time will you please answer the following questions?
1) In 2006 you promised the American people that the Democrats had a plan to lower gas prices. Since you and your party have taken over Congress gas prices have skyrocketed. When will you apologize to the American people for lying to them?
2) According to American Solutions, 73% of Americans support offshore drilling yet you continue to ignore their wishes. Why do you ignore the people for whom you work?
3) Have you forgotten that you are to serve the American people’s interest and not your own?

You recently called President Bush a failure. Congress’s approval rating has reached a record low of just 18%. That is lower than the President’s approval rating. It seems as though you are the failure.

I left my email address along with my name. If I receive a response I will post it here on MonkeyCrash. I have a feeling, however, that Speaker Pelosi will fail in responding.

ACLU Criticizes The Terrorist Watch List

// July 16th, 2008 // 2 Comments » // WAR ON TERROR

Earlier this week the ACLU criticized Federal officials and the Bush administration on their handling of the Terror Watch List. They claim the list has reached over 1 million names, although the Terrorist Screening Center (TSC) says the ACLU is confusing the number of records (1 million) with the number of individuals on the list (400,000). Of course you won’t hear the ACLU acknowledge their mistake.

The TSC was created by a Homeland Security Presidential Directive in September 2003. Its purpose was to combine existing terrorist watch lists and help screen individuals who apply for visas, attempt to enter the U.S. or get stopped by law enforcement for traffic violations. Before the TSC the Feds relied on dozens of separate watch lists maintained by various agencies. The integration of the lists allows for better security.

The ACLU claims that the list is too big, mismanaged and is unfair. Barry Steinhardt, director of the ACLU Technology and Liberty Program, goes as far as to say, “I doubt this thing would even be effective at catching a real terrorist.”

The ACLU is calling for controls on the watch list including due process and a right to access and challenge data upon which the list is based.

There you have it, another attack on our nations security by the American Left. I have a suggestion for the TSC. Perhaps you should add all the members of the ACLU to the list. It appears that they have it in for America.

Unexpected Lesson From Gettysburg

// July 4th, 2008 // 1 Comment » // WAR ON TERROR

MonkeyCrash has not been updated for a few days due to a much needed vacation. I’d like to steer away from my usual political rants in order to share this brief story from my vacation.

If a fireman pulled you from a burning home would you thank him? If a police officer protected you from a would be mugger would you show gratitude? What if a doctor saved your life when all others thought you were a goner? Would you want to shake his hand?

I was at Gettysburg this week touring the famous battlefield believing I’d gain a better knowledge of the events that took place there. As our tour began our tour guide stepped on the bus and I immediately turned to my wife and said, “I didn’t know Steve Carell was giving this tour; sweet”. My wife did not appreciate my humor but he really did have a resemblance to Steve Carell.

About halfway through our tour our guide mentioned that he was just back from the Iraq War. That was when a pesky thought entered my mind. Here I am learning about heroes from the Civil War and I have a living breathing one right in front of me. He will never have a monument marking where he has been. His name will never be in a history book. But he is a hero in every sense of the word. Then the pesky thought evolved into a guilty feeling. How many times have I walked past someone in uniform and not thanked them for their service? They have; or are willing to put their life on the line to protect me and my family and I like most others simply walk past them.

At the conclusion of the tour I decided that I was going to go up to this man and thank him for his service. As we stepped of the bus I told my wife I’d be right back. I walked over to the tour guide shook his hand and said, ” Thank you for your service in Iraq, we appreciate it.” He replied, “My pleasure, thank you for that.” No this was not a momentous occasion, just a few simple words, but how can I not say thank you to those who serve our country.

I learned a lot about Gettysburg this week, but the most important thing I took with me was a new found gratitude for our men and women in the Armed Forces.

Supreme Court Supports Suspected Terrorists

// June 13th, 2008 // 1 Comment » // WAR ON TERROR

The Supreme Court has ruled that over 270 prisoners in Guantanamo, held for more than six years for alleged links with al-Qaida and the Taliban, have a constitutional right to take their cases to civilian courts on the US mainland.

The nine-member supreme court voted 5-4 in favor of the ruling thanks in large part to the swing vote of  Justice Anthony Kennedy, a “maverick conservative” who joined his more liberal colleagues to provide the 5-4 majority.

Once again our country has been made weaker by liberals. These are prisoners of war! Therein is the problem. The liberals still do not understand that we are at war. Not only are these terrorists going to be given the same rights as you and I, they will be brought over to our mainland! This is insane.

History has already shown us that when these prisoners are released they return to their terror networks and to the war. The 5 terrorists charged with planning the 9/11 attacks are at Guantanamo. Are they to be sent to our country as well? Do they really deserve the rights that you and I deserve? They are not citizens!

These Supreme Court Justices, Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, David Souter, John Paul Stevens and Anthony Kennedy who voted in favor of this foolish ruling should be forever linked to any terrorist attacks resulting from this decision.

It’s interesting that this happens in an election year. The media will soon find the one or two prisoners whom they believe are innocent and will use them as propaganda for their crusade against our freedom and the war. Chris Matthews and his liberal colleagues will be outraged over the alleged rights violations suffered by these poor prisoners. The worst part about all of this is that both McCain and Obama want Guantanamo closed. With that kind of poor leadership our country is headed for troubled times.

Open Letter to Nancy Pelosi

// February 12th, 2008 // 7 Comments » // WAR ON TERROR

Sunday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) said twice that  Iraq “is a failure,” adding that President Bush’s troop surge has “not produced the desired effect.”
“The purpose of the surge was to create a secure time for the government of Iraq to make the political change to bring reconciliation to Iraq,”
Pelosi said on CNN’s “Late Edition.” “They have not done that.”  After her denigration of the troops the speaker added: “The troops have succeeded, God bless them.”The following is an open letter to Speaker Pelosi:

Speaker Pelosi,

 After hearing your remarks and those echoed by your fellow democrats one can’t help but wonder who’s side you are one.  Our soldiers in Iraq put their lives on the line everyday for you while you continue to denigrate and use them to accomplish your political agenda.

These soldiers have a special courage that most of us will never come to possess. I wonder if you have enough courage to visit them in their foxhole and tell them you think they have failed. If you truly believe they have failed go to the military hospitals and tell those who have lost limbs that they have lost those limbs in vain. Please visit the families who have lost mothers, fathers, sons and daughters and tell them that their loved ones sacrificed their lives for a lost cause. The truth is that our soldiers are fighting for US. Unlike you and those who share your warped views our soldiers love our country. They fight in Iraq so that you can continue to have the right to stand up and call them failures.

Whether you agree with going to war with Iraq or not, we are there. We have a mission to accomplish and we must prevail. Every terrorist or insurgent killed in Iraq is one less threat to America. It’s unnerving that you and some of your colleagues do not understand the world in which we live today.

The truth is you are consumed with yourself and your agenda. You are consumed with the power that comes with your position. You do not care about America nor those who fight to defend Her. You not only undermine out troops, but you also insult our intelligence. At the end of you remarks you say, “The troops have succeeded, God bless them.” This is the kind of double talk that has become common place with you and your comrades. If the “troops have succeeded” then the Iraq war has or is succeeding. If  you’re going to lie to us about the war in Iraq don’t hide behind a “I support the troops” line after you just finished denigrating them and calling them failures. You; Speaker Pelosi, are everything that is wrong with America and politicians.
