Barack Obama Elected President; What Will This Conservative Do?

// November 5th, 2008 // 3 Comments » // POLITICAL ARENA

If you have visited this site at all it is obvious to you that I was not for Obama. In truth, as a conservative I didn’t even prefer McCain. Once it became clear to me that Obama was far and away liberal I decided that my vote needed to go to McCain as he would keep the country at least in the middle. Not to mention the next president will be selecting several supreme court justices in the next few years.

Now that Obama has won the election some may wonder how a conservative like myself will go about these next four years?

Let me begin by saying that it is a great day for America. Many struggles have been fought for civil rights and no one can deny that the election of the first African-American to the presidency is a historic moment. Though I rejoice with the country in that moral victory, I must admit a feeling of unease. I still do not stand in agreement with president-elect Obama on many issues. I will not take the time to go through the issues as they are well documented throughout this website. Time will tell what direction Barack Obama wants to take this Country. The unease comes from the belief that it will be to the left.

As I enter these next four years with Barack Obama as my president I will not vilify him as his party vilified Bush. That’s not to say that I won’t sound off when and if I disagree with a policy of his. I will respect the office that he holds even if he did not earn my vote. I will pray for him and ask God to guide him and give him wisdom as he leads the greatest country on Earth.

Life goes on. I’ll get up in the morning, go to work and then come home to my loving family. I will continue to trust God and follow his leading in my life. I will continue to uphold conservative values and urge other conservatives to continue on.There will be some big issues for us next year, the fairness doctrine, abortion, and health care to name a few. Don’t lose heart.

MonkeyCrash will take a much needed break for the remainder of the week. Mrs. MonkeyCrash would like her husband back. If you are a frequent visitor please check back here Monday Novermber 10th as we get back in the swing of things. In the meantime, does anyone need some McCain yard signs?

The AP Exposes Flaws With Obama’s Promises From His Infomercial

// October 30th, 2008 // No Comments » // POLITICAL ARENA

Obama made various promises during his 30 minute infomercial. The AP has realeased the following statements concerning Obama’s false promises:

From The AP

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was less than upfront in his half-hour commercial Wednesday night about the costs of his programs and the crushing budget pressures he would face in office.

Obama’s assertion that “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond” the expense of his promises is accepted only by his partisans. His vow to save money by “eliminating programs that don’t work” masks his failure throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are — beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

A sampling of what voters heard in the ad, and what he didn’t tell them:

THE SPIN: “That’s why my health care plan includes improving information technology, requires coverage for preventive care and pre-existing conditions and lowers health care costs for the typical family by $2,500 a year.”

THE FACTS: His plan does not lower premiums by $2,500, or any set amount. Obama hopes that by spending $50 billion over five years on electronic medical records and by improving access to proven disease management programs, among other steps, consumers will end up saving money. He uses an optimistic analysis to suggest cost reductions in national health care spending could amount to the equivalent of $2,500 for a family of four. Many economists are skeptical those savings can be achieved, but even if they are, it’s not a certainty that every dollar would be passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums.

THE SPIN: “I also believe every American has a right to affordable health care.”

THE FACTS: That belief should not be confused with a guarantee of health coverage for all. He makes no such promise. Obama hinted as much in the ad when he said about the problem of the uninsured: “I want to start doing something about it.” He would mandate coverage for children but not adults. His program is aimed at making insurance more affordable by offering the choice of government-subsidized coverage similar to that in a plan for federal employees and other steps, including requiring larger employers to share costs of insuring workers.

THE SPIN: “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond their cost.”

THE FACTS: Independent analysts say both Obama and Republican John McCain would deepen the deficit. The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates Obama’s policy proposals would add a net $428 billion to the deficit over four years — and that analysis accepts the savings he claims from spending cuts. The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, whose other findings have been quoted approvingly by the Obama campaign, says: “Both John McCain and Barack Obama have proposed tax plans that would substantially increase the national debt over the next 10 years.” The analysis goes on to say: “Neither candidate’s plan would significantly increase economic growth unless offset by spending cuts or tax increases that the campaigns have not specified.”

THE SPIN: “Here’s what I’ll do. Cut taxes for every working family making less than $200,000 a year. Give businesses a tax credit for every new employee that they hire right here in the U.S. over the next two years and eliminate tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. Help homeowners who are making a good faith effort to pay their mortgages, by freezing foreclosures for 90 days. And just like after 9-11, we’ll provide low-cost loans to help small businesses pay their workers and keep their doors open. ”

THE FACTS: His proposals — the tax cuts, the low-cost loans, the $15 billion a year he promises for alternative energy, and more — cost money, and the country could be facing a record $1 trillion deficit next year. Indeed, Obama recently acknowledged — although not in his commercial — that: “The next president will have to scale back his agenda and some of his proposals.”

Media Underplays Mahoney Sex Scandal Because He Is A Democrat

// October 14th, 2008 // No Comments » // POLITICAL ARENA

House Rep Tim Mahoney should be happy he is a democrat. If he were a republican his sex scandal would be front page news on papers and websites throughout America. Because of his party affiliation the media has turned a blind eye as well as many of his colleagues.

Tim Mahoney won his congressional seat in 2006 after Rep. Mark Foley, a Republican, was forced to resign in the wake of a scandal involving a congressional page. The scandal was front page news everywhere. The democrats called for his head. Where are they all on the Mahoney scandal?

Mahoney, who is married, had an affair with Patricia Allen while campaigning against Foley on a platform of morality. Allen was hired as a staff member after Mahoney won the ’06 election, but was later moved to the campagin staff after rumors of the affair spread.

Allen tried to break off the affair after learning Mahoney was supposedly cheating on her and his wife with other women. In response, he threatened her job. “You work at my pleasure,” Mahoney told Allen in a taped Jan. 20, 2008, telephone call.

It was then that Mahoney paid $121,000 Allen to keep her quiet.

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel knew about the affair. He spoke to Mahoney last year about his personal conduct. In other words he may have helped cover up the scandal. You can bet the Pelosi knew about it as well, although she denies having knowledge of the affair.

So where are you on this media? As I scoured the Internet this morning I found that only Fox News is covering this story with the seriousness that it deserves. Here are the headlines from the web.

Senate Passes Bailout Plan With Sweeteners; How Did Your Senator Vote?

// October 2nd, 2008 // 2 Comments » // ECONOMY, Featured Articles, POLITICAL ARENA

The Senate passed the Bailout Bill Wednesday with “sweeteners” in order to appease both parties. The said sweeteners are as follows:
FDIC - Increase, from $100,000 to $250,000, the limit on federal bank deposit insurance. The limit would revert to $100,000 at the end of 2009 unless extended by Congress.

ENERGY – Legislation providing business tax breaks for production of and investment in industries promoting clean energy such as solar, wind and biodiesel.

DISASTER RELIEF – Grant tax relief for victims of natural disasters in the Midwest, such as flooding, tornadoes and other severe weather events.

TAX BREAKS – A one-year fix to the Alternative Minimum Tax that will exempt 20 million Americans from paying higher income taxes. In recent years the AMT has required a “patch” to help more and more middle class taxpayers avoid paying a tax that was never intended to include them. This year the patch is costing $64 billion, for example. Extend until end of 2009 the deduction for state and local general sales taxes.

EDUCATION AID - Extend individual tax breaks, including deductions for higher education costs and teachers’ personal expenses, until 2009.

RURAL AREAS – Extend through 2011 a program that funds rural schools and local governments that have low property-tax bases because they lie within or are adjacent to federal lands.

HEALTH CARE – Require group health plans that include mental health or addiction treatment to provide coverage for those conditions that is equitable to other medical coverage.

The House will most likely vote on the Bailout Bill this Friday and it is unclear if they will get the votes needed to pass the plan. Interesting enough the bill was only 12 votes short from passing earlier in the week. Twelve Democrats from Barney Frank’s committee voted against the bill. Perhaps Barney can convince his own committee to vote yes before blaming the Republicans for everything that doesn’t go his way.

Who Won The First Debate; Obama or McCain?

// September 27th, 2008 // 3 Comments » // POLITICAL ARENA

Due to the economic happenings of the day, the first debate was separated into two parts. The first part was the economy. I thought both candidates did well with this issue. Obviously Obama supporters will say Obama won the debate on the economy and McCain supporters will say otherwise. McCain is right, we need to stop government spending and lower taxes. We need less government, not more. Obama has a socialist plan for the economy and can’t be trusted with it.

The second part of the debate was on foreign policy. Even Obama supporters would have to acknowledge that McCain has Obama beat on foreign policy and national security. McCain slammed Obama several times on his inexperience when it comes to these issues.

I’m amazed that Obama will still not admit that he was wrong about the surge. We need a president who is not too proud to admit when he is wrong.

The highlight of the debate was when McCain somewhat mocked Obama’s wishes to talk with Ahmadinejad.

MCCAIN: “So let me get this right. We sit down with Ahmadinejad, and he says, “We’re going to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth,” and we say, “No, you’re not”? Oh, please.”

CNN and MSNBC polls will have Obama as the winner of the debate, but those who knew what to look for know that McCain won.
